This textured basket was made with a handwoven piece of fabric for the outer and some silky fabric, sourced from the secondhand store, for the lining. The outer woven fabric was made with long strips of leftover organic cotton velour, coiled into a bulky yarn. The velour scraps are pre-consumer production waste from Finnish sustainable fashion brand MORICO.
The outer piece was woven on a small table loom. The warp is made up from a thin white cotton yarn, that contrasts with the dark red velour. Every other row was woven with the velour strips, seperated by a row of the same thin cotton yarn as used in the warp. This creates a very symmetrical grid pattern, with the thin yarn almost dissaperaing between the velour. The basket is constructed with a large folded rim that gives it rigidity and also a very clean and finished look.
This basket can be used for a variety of storage needs around your home. Even if the basket is not completely full, the outer woven fabric wraps around to the inside for a very clean look. This basket is perfect to store your yarn stash, kid's toys or some reusable shopping bags. The velvet basket matches perfectly with out sea urchin, starfish and shell pillows to give your home a soft velvety touch all around.
MORICO is a finnish sustainable brand, creating ethical and slow fashion. This product is created with some of their pre-consumer scraps - cut-offs in the production process of their clothes and accessories. Their high quality organic cottons, viscose and other fabrics are too precious to waste, so we took some of the small and weird pieces and created a small collection of unique Wasteless Wonders products with them.
