This velvety backpack is made with a variety of organic cotton velour scraps, layered with some sturdy upcycled upholstery fabric. The lining is mainly made from some larger printed viscose scraps. The webbing, zippers, bias tape and other small bits of fabric are all secondhand. The organic cotton velour and viscose scraps are pre-consumer production waste from Finnish sustainable fashion brand MORICO.
This velvet backpack is constructed from many different pieces and in a many step process. First the outer pieces are prepared by quilting the velour scraps onto a sturdy while upholstery fabric with a contrasting neon pink sewing thread. This not only removes the stretch of the velour, but also adds a really cool optical effect to the velour. Next the front pocket and main zipper are assembled together with the stunning bright yellow crystal printed viscose lining. The straps and inner padded pocket are also quilted with the upholstery fabric and some batting to give the cushioning effect. All the pieces are then assembled and finally finished with some bias tape to secure the seams and add to the rigidity of the shape of the backpack.
This bag is a perfect companion for your daily trips to work or around the city. It features a large padded inner pocket to keep your laptop, tablet or sketchbook safe. The interior is roomy and fits a variety of things, from work supplies to sports gear, to weekend travel essentials. The front pocket with hidden zipper is a perfect small compartment for things you need accessible from the outside.
MORICO is a finnish sustainable brand, creating ethical and slow fashion. This product is created with some of their pre-consumer scraps - cut-offs in the production process of their clothes and accessories. Their high quality organic cottons, viscose and other fabrics are too precious to waste, so we took some of the small and weird pieces and created a small collection of unique Wasteless Wonders products with them.
