These squishy starfish pillows are made from 15 - 20 polygonal fabric pieces, arranged in a way to form a smaller or larger starfish. The small starfish is created from organic cotton velour scraps and features a burgundy top and greyish pink bottom. The large starfish is created from a printed pink organic cotton with some mustard and white swirls. The bottom of the large starfish is white and created using the brushed back side of the swirly fabric. Both pillows are stuffed with small fabric scraps, recycled batting and stuffing. The organic cotton and velour scraps are pre-consumer production waste from Finnish sustainable fashion brand MORICO.
All our odd-shaped pillows are stuffed with a variety of yarn and fabric scraps. This is one of the main ways how we keep our textile production completely zero waste. This unfortunately means that these decorative pillows can't be washed in your regular laundry machine, as the outer shell is not removable. If there is any stains or dirt, use some detergent and carefully wipe down the outer surface to clean it.
The small starfish was assembled from 20 very long and thin polygonal fabric pieces and lined with some recycled batting before stuffing. The batting gives it a nice and smooth surface and hides some of the uneven texture of the stuffing that is otherwise made from small fabric scraps. The large starfish is made with 5 pieces on the top layer to emphasize the pattern of the fabric and 10 pieces on the bottom. This gives the bottom side of the starfish a nice texture and more realistic look with additional lines. This larger version is mainly stuffed with fabric scraps and some recycled stuffing just under the surface of the fabric to smooth it out.
This pillow is a perfect accent for a kid's room, a funky living room or a reading corner with lot's of soft pillows and plushies. It can be used as a floor pillow, a cuddly pushie or in an arrangement of pillows. It fits perfectly together with our shell, sea urchin and knot pillows. The small starfish is around 52 cm in diameter and 8cm in height, while the large starfish is about 65 cm in diameter and 11 cm in height.
MORICO is a finnish sustainable brand, creating ethical and slow fashion. This product is created with some of their pre-consumer scraps - cut-offs in the production process of their clothes and accessories. Their high quality organic cottons, viscose and other fabrics are too precious to waste, so we took some of the small and weird pieces and created a small collection of unique Wasteless Wonders products with them.
