These decorative pillows are made from a piece of woven fabric for the front or main and some upcyled upholstery fabric for the back and sides. The woven part was created with scrap organic cotton strips, coiled into bulky yarn. In this case it is showing the brushed back side of an otherwise smooth printed fabric. The organic cotton scraps are pre-consumer production waste from Finnish sustainable fashion brand MORICO.
In case you order your pillow case including the inner pillow, you will receive a simple fitting insert, made with some thin weight fabric and stuffed with a variety of yarn and fabric scraps. This is one of the main ways how we keep our textile production completely zero waste.
While the texture is not as fluffy and even as a polyfil-pillow, the srap pillow is just as soft and works really well with the fluffy and sturdy front side of this pillow. If you were to re-use your scrap pillow in another pillow case in the future, please be aware that the texture of it might poke through if the pillow case is too thin.
For any odd-shaped pillows, like the cylindrical one, the inner pillow or stuffing is sewn in. This means that these pillows are not washeable, as the outer shell can not be taken off. To guarantee the pillow has and retains a nice shape, we use the sewn-in technique. Since the outer surface of the pillow is quite thick and robust, it can be gently cleaned from the outside with some detergent to get rid of small stains and dirt.
The outer piece was woven on a small table loom. The warp is made up from a thin white cotton yarn, that blends in with the white cotton yarn strips. A subtle texture is created, when weaving the yarn strips and pressing the rows together tightly. The square pillow measures about 37 x 34 cm, while the cylinder measures about 15 cm in diameter and 38 cm in length.

MORICO is a finnish sustainable brand, creating ethical and slow fashion. This product is created with some of their pre-consumer scraps - cut-offs in the production process of their clothes and accessories. Their high quality organic cottons, viscose and other fabrics are too precious to waste, so we took some of the small and weird pieces and created a small collection of unique Wasteless Wonders products with them.
