The base material of these baskets are thin long strips of pre-consumer hemp scraps from HEMPEA. They are crocheted into shape, using a variety of different colored recycled yarns.
The baskets were created using a simple crocheting technique, where the fabric scraps are wrapped by each stitch during the crocheting process. Each basket is basically a long fabric coil, spiralled into shape and fixed in place by the yarn. The variations of shape can either stem from the crocheting pattern itself or the slight differences in the thickness of the scrap fabric strips. This way a quite spontaneous, semi-controlled organic shape emerges.
These crocheted baskets are available in a variety of sizes and can be individually created to match for example one of your house plants or other size requirements you may have. Pictured here are the following options:
Size L - D24 x 16 cm - 6 hours making time - 3360 stitches - 329 €
Size M - D18 x 10 cm - 3 hours making time - 1580 stitches - 169 €
Size S - D14 x 11 cm - 2 hours making time - 860 stitches - 109 €
Size XS - D12 x 12 cm with lid - 1 hour making time - 650 stitches - 55 €
Baskets are the perfect way to add texture to any room, whether you use them as storage, as planters or decorative elements. They are a fun way to organize your things, while being way more stylish than a cardboard box.
HEMPEA is a finnish sustainable brand, creating eco-friendly home textiles from 100% hemp fabrics. This product is created with some of their pre-consumer scraps - cut-offs in the production process of their bedding and other products. Their high quality, ethically made hemp fabrics are too precious to waste, so we took all the small and odd shape pieces and created a small collection of unique Wasteless Wonders products with them.
