This velvety leaf mat is made with a variety of organic cotton velour scraps and secondhand macramee rope. The back side is made with a silky secondhand fabric and the batting was a secondhand baby duvet. The organic cotton velour scraps are pre-consumer production waste from Finnish sustainable fashion brand MORICO.
The alocasia leaf mat top was assembled from ten large curved velour pieces. The seam lines were then covered with the secondhand macrame rope to accentuate the bold lines found in alocasia leaves. Then the batting and back fabric were added to the mat and finally everything was quilted, again following the lines in the leaf to create the same pattern on the back and secure the duvet/batting on the inside.
This leaf mat is a perfect baby play mat that can stay out in any room as a stunning eye-catcher. It can also be used for pets, as a soft piece of wall art or as the base of a cozy reading nook. It pairs well with our shell pillows and pebbles side table.
MORICO is a finnish sustainable brand, creating ethical and slow fashion. This product is created with some of their pre-consumer scraps - cut-offs in the production process of their clothes and accessories. Their high quality organic cottons, viscose and other fabrics are too precious to waste, so we took some of the small and weird pieces and created a small collection of unique Wasteless Wonders products with them.
